MARDAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Inspector General Salahuddin Mehsud said that provincial government would recruit 2500 policemen to safeguard the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor-related projects.

While addressing, police liaison council members and elders of the region on Wednesday at Police lines Mardan, the IG said that terror incidents had declined by 83 per cent and crime declined by 17 per cent as compared to 2014.

New Police Act 2017 was being implemented in letter and spirit under which police force would be made more transparent and answerable to the public, he added.

The IGP said police force was committed to ensuring lasting peace across the province by defeating militancy in all forms, but these efforts are supplemented through joint efforts by all institutions and people to achieve the desired goal.

Referring to KP government policies and initiatives for strengthening the police force, he said the department was, now, depoliticised with a transparent and merit-based system in vogue, adding that no leniency was being shown in cases of negligence.

The KP government had sanctioned Rs 700 million for the security plan of the CPEC, which provided for recruitment of 2500 additional policemen, procurement of arms and purchase of vehicles besides taking other necessary measures to provide fool-proof security to the route.

He also appreciated the performance of KP Police, saying it was a committed and valiant force.

The IG was also taken on a round of newly designed SMS system desk, known as Police Access Service (PAS), saying the initiative would help address public complaints promptly.
