Afridi cries foul about media reports saying he backed PM Nawaz

Former Pakistan test-captain Shahid Afridi has rubbished the claims that he has recently backed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and criticised PTI chairman and Pakistan’s only World Cup winning Captain Imran Khan regarding their political battle on the issue of the Panama papers.

The infamously volatile all-rounder in a tweet asked  people and the media not to politicise him, saying that the words recently attributed to him were said more than two years ago in an interview. Hinting perhaps at a change of heart, Afridi stated that two years was a long time and opinions can change over time especially when new facts come to light.

Afridi had been the center of attention when claims were circulated in the media that he had said PM Nawaz Sharif was “an honest and sincere person” and that Imran Khan should not be impatient and “Wait for his turn.” The reports also claimed that Afridi criticised Imran Khan by saying he was trying to play “T-20 style politics” and that he has a lack of patience.

Meanwhile twitter took to criticising news agencies for running the interview which Afridi says was two years old now. Urdu Daily Jaang had carried the news on its front page for which they too were taken to task by social media keyboard warriors. The news item further went on to state that Afridi had said if Imran Khan kept working at it he would achieve his goal to become Prime Minister too just as he has achieved all his other goals.
