Funeral prayers of three martyred policemen offered

Funeral prayers of three policemen, martyred on Friday evening when their vehicle was attacked by unknown assailants in the Korangi area, were offered on Saturday morning.

The policemen on duty were not wearing body armour, although they had it in the vehicle. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Inspector General Police AD Khawaja and other senior police officers attended the prayers. Floral wreaths were laid on behalf of the chief minister and IG police.

The government has announced compensation of Rs 5 million for the next of kins of each martyred policeman. This was the third attack on policeman in three months.

Meanwhile at least 33 suspects were taken into custody during police search operation in different localities of Baldia Town in Karachi on Friday night.

After the Korangi attack, police carried out house-to-house search in different localities of Baldia Town during which at least 33 suspects were taken into custody.

According to SP Baldia Town, at least six accused were among the arrested persons. Police sources said that the arrested persons were later shifted to police station.
