ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate Lowari Tunnel project which connects Dir with Chitral, on Thursday (today).
Lowari Tunnel, which includes two tunnels (8.5 kilometres and 1.9 kilometres), access roads and 12 bridges (35km), is located on Nowshera-Mardan-Malakand-Chakdara-Chitral National Highway (N-45).
Construction of Lowari Tunnel has been a long standing demand of the people of the area which was neglected in the past.
The completion of the project will mark an enhancement of economic growth through accelerated trade activity, generate employment opportunities for the locals, promote tourism and reduce travel time for passengers.
The tunnel has been completed at a cost of about twenty-five billion rupees.
With the completion of the tunnel, travelling time between Peshawar and Chitral has been nearly cut by half from fourteen to about seven hours.
