States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch, on Thursday, said the army didn’t oppose the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the army wanted FATA to be brought into the main stream.

He was responding to a Senate motion on FATA reforms on Thursday.

“The army had pressed for completion of rehabilitation and development works in Fata before its merger with KP,” he said.

Senator Farhatullah Babar responded with an objection to his comments, saying that the statements of the SAFRON minister and Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on the issue were inconsistent.

He pleaded, “The statement regarding the opinion of the army should not be made public at this point.”

He further said that this year, the army has demanded in writing for implementation of the FATA reforms.
