ECP announces schedule of Senate bye-election

 

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced the schedule of Senate bye-election for general seat from Punjab, which has fallen vacant, due to resignation tendered by Senator Zaheer-ud-Din Babar Awan.

According to ECP, the commission has fixed the dates for the nomination of candidates, the scrutiny of nomination papers, last date for withdrawal of candidature and place of polling. As per schedule, the polling will be held on August 8 (Tuesday from 9am to 4pm) at Provincial Assembly building, Lahore.

Public notice inviting nomination papers will be on July 21, nomination of candidates will be on July 25 (9am to 4pm) while scrutiny of nomination papers will be on July 27 (from 10am to 4pm).

Similarly, late date for filing of appeals will be July 31 (9am to 4pm), disposal of appeals on August 2, last date for withdrawal of candidature will be August 3 and publication of list of contesting candidates will be on August 3.

The ECP also appointed returning officer (RO) and polling officers (PO) for bye-election to fill a vacant general seat in the Senate from Punjab.

According to ECP, Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Lahore, Sharifullah has been appointed as Returning Officer while three polling officers included Majid Sharif Dogar (Director Elections), Abdul Hameed, (Deputy Director Admin) and Roy Sultan Bhatty (Deputy Director Elections).
