ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday adjourned the contempt of court case hearing against PTI Chairman Imran Khan until July 25.

The counsel of Imran Khan, Dr Babar Awan would submit reply to Akbar S Babar’s arguments in the next hearing.

Ahmed Hassan, the counsel of petitioner Akbar S Babar, argued before the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan on his persistent defiance of ECP’s orders.

He argued that ECP enjoyed powers of High Court and had the authority to start contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan.

Imran Khan’s persistent defiance is tantamount to obstruction of justice and he must be punished, he said.

It is worth mentioning here that a petition was filed by Akbar Babar earlier this year, alleging that Imran Khan had committed contempt of court in his comments on the party funds, claiming that Khan had not apologised to the ECP over his comments which was done by his counsel instead.
