CTP arrests 8 in operation against unsafe public vehicles

RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police (CTP) has launched an operation against Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) which have substandard CNG cylinders and are plying on city roads.

According to Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer Yousaf Ali Shahid, on the directive of Inspector General of Punjab Police and Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer, Fakhar Sultan Raja, traffic police have launched massive crackdown on PSVs that have low quality and unsafely installed CNG cylinders.

He informed that the CTP had lodged three FIRs against drivers of PSVs under sections 268, 285 and 286 of PPC while eight drivers have been sent behind bars.

The CTO said that strict action in accordance with the law was taken against the violators in Murree Road, Adiala and Cantt sectors.

Shahid said that CTP officers had been directed to take action against PSVs violating the rules and risking the lives of the passengers.

A special squad under his supervision was conducting raids on different routes and checking CNG cylinders, he said, adding that the operation would continue and no relaxation would be shown to anyone.
