About 2.8 mil children vaccinated in anti-polio campaign

PESHAWAR: A three-day anti-polio campaign in selected districts of KP has ended, after managing to cover 98% of its target of inoculating 2.87 million children.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the campaign was launched in 12 districts of the province with a view to cover families coming to the northern areas of the province in the summer season for vacation or business purposes.

In the campaign that started on July 10, 2017, 705,656 children were inoculated in Peshawar, 170,274 in Haripur, 213,704 in Abbotabad, 283,824 in Mansehra, 88,345 in Battagram, 82,684 in Kohistan, 36,472 in Torgher, 172,830 in Shangla, 406,398 in Swat, 285,340 in Lower Dir, 195,832 in Upper Dir and 69,932 in Chitral, revealed the data.

A total of 8,090 teams of trained polio workers have been constituted for this special campaign, out of which 6,701 were mobile, 825 fixed, 450 transit and 114 roaming.

KP EOC Coordinator Akbar Khan expressed satisfaction over the successful completion of the special drive saying that the campaign went well and the target successfully achieved.

He said that despite challenges, every effort has been made to stop virus transmission in the reservoir areas of the province and special attention was paid to cover visiting families and children on the move.

It is pertinent to mention here that special measures were taken to provide security cover to the teams and to ensure smooth conduct of the campaign.
