KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to conduct blood screening of students of both public and private sector educational institutions once a year to address their health issues.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah decided this in a meeting with Director General Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) Major General Musarrat Nawaz Malik at Chief Minister House, said a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Health Secretary Fazal Pechuho,

Home Secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez, Principal Secretary to CM

Murad Ali Shah said that the reports of usage of narcotics by students in educational institutions have worried him about the students living in hostels in Sindh.

The chief minister said that his government has already launched a targeted operation against the drug mafia.

The ANF will have to help the provincial government to eliminate the organised gangs involved in the supply of narcotics items, he added.

The meeting discussed that the blood screening of students is most important in terms of keeping an eye on their health issues.

The ANF DG, on the occasion, invited the chief minister to inaugurate Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Model Addiction and Treatment Centre (MATRC) Lyari.

The chief minister also approved a proposal to provide a building to ANF for the establishment of MATRC at Sukkur.

The chief minister, on the advice of the ANF DG, directed Health Secretary Fazal Pechuho to establish a 10-bed facility in each district hospital for drug addicts.
