The Lahore High Court on Monday ordered release of nine laborers, including two women, five children and two men.

Justice Ahmad Raza Gilani passed these orders while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Bashiran Bibi, a relative of the labourers, for their release.

According to to the bailtiff, they were at times forced to work by the landlord and weren’t compensated accordingly. She prayed the court to issue orders for their release.

However, the landlord’s lawyer maintained that these labourers were paid their wages in advance and that they were indulging in extra work according to their own free will.

After listening to arguments by both the sides, the LHC ruled in the bailtiff’s favour and ordered for the labourers to be released. It was also directed that in case of any outstanding dues to be cleared by the labourers, the landlord should approach the Civil court.
