Fans rejoiced as popular TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ returned Sunday night on HBO, with memes and reactions going off on social media following the season 7 premiere.
Among the most prominent reactions were those to the surprise cameo by English musician Ed Sheeran. The British pop-star had a hefty spot in the episode, leading a band of troubadours in a picnic singalong about a “woman’s hands” as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) wandered by on horseback. In the cameo, he sings a song, then mostly sits and smiles while the real actors do the acting. Mostly, people seem to be really upset or confused that he was there.
“It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before,” said Stark.
“It’s a new one,” Sheeran shot back, as though admonishing Arya for not checking into Westeros’ Top 40 recently.
It was Game of Thrones‘ most ballyhooed guest spot, but viewers have cringed at Ed Sheeran’s awkward cameo,(which included a few minutes of gawking awkwardly at Stark as she joined the crew for a dinner), and the fans didn’t hold any punches back on twitter.
If Arya kills Ed Sheeran this will be the best Game of Thrones ever

Ed Sheeran appearing on game of thrones but not being brutally disemboweled was very disappointing

All the backlash may have caused the Musician to actually delete his twitter account, although it seems that Sheeran didn’t quit Twitter entirely, lowering the situation from a full on exodus to just a slight break to do some reading.Although the GoT community may be divided on the cameo, the one thing we all have in common is that we definitely can’t wait for the 2nd episode which airs on the 23rd of July.
