KP CM oversees implementation of Police Act

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak on Tuesday directed to immediately frame rules of business for the smooth implementation process of Police Act in the province.

He was presiding over a meeting on the implementation process of Police Act at Chief Minister Secretariat.

Chief Secretary Abid Saeed, IGP Salahuddin Mehsud, Implementation Commissioner Tariq Umar Khitab, Finance Secretary Shakeel Qadir, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Muhammad Israr, Home Secretary Siraj Khan and representatives of the law department and others attended the meeting.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the implementation process, completion of different requirements for the formation of different safety commissions, regional and district levels and framing of rules of business under Police Act.

Addressing the participants, the chief minister said that his government had achieved the target of making police an independent body according to the aspirations of people. There should be different safeguards at different tiers of governance for the accountability and responsiveness of the police force. The commissions would strictly monitor complaints against the police force that would serve as a check on the force.

He directed to expedite formation of safety commissions for smooth implementation, adding that the members of the safety commission would have to deliver in order to run the system of policing efficiently.

Pervez Khattak also gave directions to frame the rules of business within ten days. He directed the finance department to facilitate office of implementation commission.

He also directed to complete composition of safety commissions which would be represented by the treasury, opposition and independent members of the civil society etc.
