ISLAMABAD: A three-day workshop on the literary genre of fiction, which includes the formats of novel, criticism and short story, has started at the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) on Tuesday.

Chairman PAL Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio, renowned scholar

Arshad Waheed, Dr Najeeba Arif and Dr Ravish Nadeem were also present in the inaugural session of the training workshop.

Dr Qasim Bughio, in his opening remarks, welcomed the participants in the workshop.

He said that the training workshop would definitely be a source of encouragement and guidance for new emerging writers.

He said that fictional writing was produced as a story, meant to entertain or convey an author’s point of view.

“The result of this may be a short story, novel, novella, screenplay, or drama, which are all types of fictional writing styles,” he said.

Dr Qasim Bughio added that characterisation is one of the five elements of fiction, along with plot, setting, theme and writing style.

He said that PAL was compiling a new edition of important publication called “Writers Directory” or “Ehal-e-Qalam Directory”.

“In this directory, information related to living poets and authors from all regions and languages of the country will be gathered. The latest edition of the directory will be published soon,” he informed.
