The federal government has approved increase worth above up to Rs 187,000 in the monthly salaries of the officials holding management positions (MP), while these officials will also get above Rs 65000 monthly as transport allowance.
Interestingly, incumbent regime, which had already approved only 10 per cent increase in the salary of government officials while merely Rs 1,000 increase in the wages of labourers, has now suddenly decided to provide solace to the officials holding management positions. Also, this raise has been given while setting aside the criterion of performance evaluation. And, high officials of NEPRA, OGRA, PTA, Finance Ministry and other state institutions who are already getting lucrative packages will get more benefits with effect to the federal government’s decision of enormous raise in their monthly salaries.
Furthermore, this decision will put extra burden on national exchequer. A copy of notification available with Pakistan Today, disclosed that federal government has suddenly approved a gigantic raise of Rs 35,826 to Rs 187,000 in the monthly salaries of the officials who are holding management positions. The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification of salary raise after getting necessary approval from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“The prime minister has been pleased to approve a revision of management position salary package with immediate effect,” said Finance Ministry’s notification.
It is vital to note here that minimum salary of MP-I has now reached at Rs 552600, while an official with MP-II will get Rs 255750 and MP-III official will get Rs 165825 on monthly basis with effect to the said approval of raise in their salary.
On condition of anonymity, sources at Finance Ministry said that appointment and raise in the salaries of the officials of MP scale has been made on the recommendations of Fawad Hassan Fawad, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister. They said usually only those officials get appointments in MP scales and maximum raise in their salaries who earned the confidence and trust of Fawad Hassan Fawad and some federal ministers.
Similarly, salary of a top official of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has been fixed in maximum category on the recommendation of Fawad Hassan Fawad and Cabinet Division as well, sources said.
