Four soldiers killed as India hits Pakistan Army vehicle

Four soldiers of the Pakistan Army drowned on Sunday after Indian troops targeted their vehicle along the Line of Control (LoC) and it fell into Neelum River in Athmaqam, the district headquarters of Neelum Valey.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the body of one of the soldiers had been found while the search for the others was still under way by the time this report was filed. The Pakistan Army duly responded to the brazen violation of the ceasefire with retaliatory firing, the military said in a statement.

On July 10, five Pakistani civilians, including four women, were killed after Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Rawalakot, Satwal, Manwal, Tatrinote areas. The incident also left four others, including three girls, injured. In response, the Pakistan Army destroyed two Indian check-posts leaving four troops dead.

In a statement, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the firing by Indian forces at a vehicle of the Pakistan Army in Neelum Valley which resulted in drowning and martyrdom of four army personnel.

He expressed deep grief and condolences with bereaved families of the martyred personnel. He also praised the prompt response by the army to thwart the attack. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the incident and paid homage to the bravery of the martyred soldiers and expressed condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families.
