Controversial JIT report bundle of baseless allegations of opponents, says PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif while chairing a parliamentary meeting of the ruling PML-N  today, said that he believes in rule of law, independence of judiciary and democracy. Restating his decision to not resign from the position, Prime Minister Nawaz vowed that he will continue to fight for the people of Pakistan till the last point.

He said the controversial report by the controversial JIT is a bundle of baseless allegations of our opponents.

The Prime Minister said the Sharif family has been targeted over its business matters spanning over sixty-two years with assumptions and allegations. He said there is no single sentence in the report which points out corruption committed by Nawaz Sharif.

The Prime Minister said there is not a single case of corruption or malpractice against Shahbaz Sharif and myself during our tenures in the past.

The Prime Minister said the unjustified campaign against the government was launched soon after the elections of 2013.

He regretted that elements creating political instability and uncertainty are damaging the country.

The Prime Minister said stock market after touching 54000 benchmark is now witnessing a downward trend due to an uncertain situation created in the country.

He said a number of power projects were launched during this tenure and several have already been completed.

He questioned who will hold accountable those who are pushing the country towards darkness.

Nawaz Sharif said we launched an operation against terrorists with the consultation of armed forces and backbone of terrorists has been broken.

He added that the economy of the country is progressing and if there is no negative politics, hopefully, a growth rate of six and seven percent and even beyond can be achieved.

As per sources, the meeting was attended by federal lawmakers of the party.  The meeting was called to devise a strategy to respond effectively to the opposition’s demand of premier’s resignation following the Panama case JointInvestigation Team report submission.

On Thursday, chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet, Sharif vowed that he will not resign under pressure from the conspiring groups who are against him as he has been elected democratically by the Pakistanis.

Addressing the cabinet members, Prime Minister Nawaz said that the controversial Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has submitted a report based on accusations and conjecture, and was reflective of animosity and malice. He said that the JIT report has not given even a hint of any corruption or financial misappropriation.

“We will not let an era of darkness return to our industries and villages,” he said. The prime minister said that he was not involved in corruption of even a penny in the past 32 years since 1985. He said that the JIT did not even question him about any such corruption. “All these secrets would see the light of the day on appropriate time,” he said, adding that time was not far.

The members of the meeting agreed there’s no legitimacy to the demands of the premier’s resignation, and expressed their complete support in the prime minister.
