India, the other day has turned down China’s offer to mediate tensions between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue and has said that it does not require a third country’s intervention on the issue. India further clarified its stance on resolving the issue within the bilateral framework remains unchanged.

China had on Wednesday stated that it was willing to play a “constructive role” in improving relations between India and Pakistan.

“We are ready to have a dialogue with Pakistan, among other issues, but in a bilateral framework. India’s position of addressing all issues with Pakistan, including the Jammu and Kashmir issue, in a bilateral framework has not changed,” said India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Gopal Baglay.

He also strongly rejected allegations by Pakistan that India was using chemical weapons in Kashmir, saying India is against the use of chemical weapon anywhere by anyone in any situation.

Earlier Beijing had said the conflict between India and Pakistan is threatening peace and stability in the region.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang had earlier said that India and Pakistan are important South Asian countries but the “situation in Kashmir has attracted the attention of the international community. Geng had further highlighted that the tension along the line of control (LOC) was not only detrimental to the countries but also stands as a menace to peace and stability of the entire region.

“China hopes relevant parties will do more to help with regional peace and stability and refrain from escalating the tension. China stands ready to play a constructive role to improve the relations between Pakistan and India,” he added.
