PMERA issues notices to Apna TV, Mubashar Luqman

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on Thursday, issued a show cause notice to APNA TV channel for airing indecent content during the broadcast of its morning show on July 6, 2017.

The airing of such content is in violation of various clauses of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007 and Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015. The content aired is offensive to the commonly accepted standards of decency and exploits cultural and religious values of viewers.

It has directed the channel to reply to the show cause notice within seven days, that is, on or before July 21, 2017, explaining its position.

MUBASHAR LUQMAN SERVED LEGAL NOTICE: A legal notice has been served to Mubashar Luqman, anchor person of programme “Khara Such” at Channel 24 for airing a wrong statement about Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Climate change Zahid Hamid.

The anchor, on July 11, alleged that Zahid Hamid, along with other MNAs, is going to leave Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) soon, a PEMRA press release on Thursday said.

This is a fabricated statement is without any logical claims.  The legal notice also demanded from the channel to retract the statement and make an unconditioned apology in the same programme and at the same time.

In failure to do so, civil and criminal proceedings would be initiated against the anchor and other responsible for the false statement under the relevant laws, including a suit for damages for a sum of Rs100 million.
