Women’s representation in LB system to strengthen political process: minister

LAHORE: Punjab Women Development Minister Hameeda Waheeduddin, on Wednesday, said that an effective representation of women in local bodies system will strengthen political process.

She was addressing the concluding ceremony of training of women councillors of Lahore and Nankana Sahib.

Women Development Department Secretary Bushra Aman, MPA Dr Nausheen Hamid, Farzana Butt, Sara Sohail, WISE Executive Director Bushra Khaliq, a representative of USAID, Sara Sohail, women councillors and member-workers were present on the occasion.

The minister said that women should have awareness about their rights so that they could perform their duties in an efficient manner. Referring to various steps of the Punjab government for women welfare, the minister said that implementation of all steps is being ensured under women package.

Provincial Secretary Bushra Aman in her speech said that work regarding women welfare project is in progress under the Women Development Department and a huge amount has been allocated in the current fiscal year’s budget for this purpose.

Bushra Khaliq said that 492 women councillors of Lahore and Nankana Sahib have been provided training with the help of the USAID on the topics, including powers of union council, laws regarding women and leadership skills.
