Teachers promoted after court order

The Education Department, Government of Punjab, has issued a notification for promoting 1000 English cadre teachers of District Rawalpindi from their date of appointment, rather than from 2007.

These teachers are promoted to the next grade after 24 years in conformity with the court order, according to media reports.

These more than 1000 male and female teachers in English cadres were appointed in primary schools in 1993. They were supervising these schools as heads and in 2007 they were appointed in Middle , High and Higher Secondary schools across the province.

The education department had not included the period of their service from 1993 to 2007 and prepared the seniority lists for their promotion in next grade from 2007.

Teachers protested over the issuance of seniority lists and demanded that seniority lists should be prepared from first date of appointment. The court has given a decision in favor of the teachers.

The Education Department of Government of Punjab, keeping in view the court order, has issued notification of promotion of these 1000 teachers of English Cadres from district Rawalpindi in next grades from the first date of appointment.
