KARACHI: Sindh Young Nurses Association (SYNA) has called for urgent approval of the summary forwarded to the chief minister of Sindh regarding raise in the stipend of nurse students, registered with public sector institutions across the province.

SYNA President Ejaz Kulleiri, in a statement said that the recommended raise in the stipend of nurses from Rs 6,860 to Rs 15,880 was desperately needed and that relevant notification must be issued immediately.

Issuance of notification and implementation of the summary will finally turn the four figure stipend of Sindh based nurse students to five figures, as offered to their counterparts in other regions of the country, he said.

Kulleiri mentioned that contrary to paltry sum of Rs 6,860 offered to the local students, their colleagues in Punjab were given Rs 15,880 in Punjab, Rs 20,000 in KPK and Rs 10,000 in Balouchistan.

It was in February this year that SYNA and Provincial Nurses Association had resorted to strike and demanded increase in the stipend besides improvement in the service as well as pay structure for nurses and paramedical staff across the province.

Provincial government, taking into account the situation, had held series of meetings with the representatives of the protestors and agreed to accept all their genuine demands.
