Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Wednesday said a medium to high-level flood in the nullahs of rivers Ravi and Chenab is expected during the next 24 hours.
According to the FFC report, presently, there was no riverine flood situation in the country.
All major rivers, including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, Kabul River and its tributary Swat River were in low flood.
At present, there is sufficient space available in Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs to absorb high inflows; their present elevations are 1485.64 feet & 1209.70 feet, respectively, indicating an available cushion of 64.36 feet (Tarbela) and 32.30 feet at Mangla.
Current Combined Live Storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 8.010 MAF (57.80 pc of total live storage capacity) as compared to last year’s 10.082 MAF.
As per Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, a monsoon low from (Indian Bay of Bengal) prevails over Eastern Uttar Pradesh (India) and is likely to affect South-Eastern parts of the country from July 15.
Tuesday’s strong trough of westerly wave still prevails over the northern parts of the country, whereas a marked seasonal low lies over northern Balochistan.
The FFD has predicted scattered wind-thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls, in isolated places, over Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Gujranwala Divisions, (Punjab) besides, over upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 24 hours.
During the same period scattered wind-thunderstorm/rain is also expected over Lahore & D G Khan divisions including Northeastern Balochistan, in addition to isolated thunderstorm/rain over Multan and Bahawalpur divisions and upper catchment of Indus River.
A fresh rainy spell is likely to start on Friday.
