ISLAMABAD: The SC ruled that it does not have the jurisdiction to constitute a commission to investigate the picture leak. It also stated that the government may constitute a commission to investigate the matter of leaking picture if it deems fit. The head of the Supreme Court’s special implementation bench, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan also ordered that the identity of the person responsible for leaking Hussain Nawaz’s interrogation picture should be disclosed.
Moreover, FIA probe team revealed serious allegations against SECP chairman Zafar Hijazi who was alleged of tampering records of Sharif family’s properties. The SC ruled that a case be immediately lodged against Hijazi.
Earlier, the JIT held its concluding session and reviewed the final report of the investigation before submitting it to the special Supreme Court bench.
The investigators brought with them documents in two cartons. Sources are also reported to have said that the documents included three copies of the final probe report of the JIT.
All six members of the JIT were required to be present at the Supreme Court today.
The members of the JIT the other day remained busy in preparing the report, sources were reported to have stated.
The JIT was headed by Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia, and included State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz, Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Bilal Rasool, Military Intelligence’s Brig Kamran Khursheed, Inter Services Intelligence’s Brig (Retd) Nauman Saeed and National Accountability Bureau’s Irfan Mangi.
The special bench was headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and included Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
A red alert was issued for the federal capital’s Red Zone, where the Supreme Court is located, and strict security measures were in place. Moreover, police and Rangers were deployed both inside and outside the Supreme Court premises, officials confirmed.
Authorities feared the law and order situation could deteriorate in case supporters of both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gather at the venue.
The JIT, constituted on May 5 was responsible for investigating Sharif family’s offshore properties.
