Committees formed to monitor flood situation

Punjab Irrigation Minister Amanat Ullah Khan has said that committees headed by the deputy commissioners have been constituted to monitor flood situation in order to act timely in case of a flood.

He stated this while presiding over a departmental meeting held on Sunday to review the flood preparation in the province.

These committees would keep close liaison with Irrigation Department staff in case of a breach in canals, rivers or any other emergency.

The Irrigation Department field staff would remain on duty round the clock during the monsoon, while teams of Flood Safety Evaluation Cell would also sending their reports regarding the state of irrigation infrastructure to the relevant chief engineers to ensure safety measures.

The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the concerned departments. The minister said that the chief minister has decided to enhance the compensation money from 0.5million to 0.8m rupees for families of deceased of flood incidents.

The Chief Minister has also announced to hand over his helicopter to Provincial Cabinet Committee on Flood during monsoon season.

Flood fighting plans have been finalised at all the 54 irrigations zones in the province while mock exercises and joint inspections along with Pak Army have also been practised by the Punjab Irrigation Department staff in the vulnerable areas in the backdrop of the flood.
