The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) is organising a training workshop for emerging writers to be held in July.

The workshop is currently planned to take place from July 11 to 13 at the PAL’s Conference Hall.

Chairman PAL Prof. Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio said that the training workshop would be a source of encouragement and guidance for emerging writers.

He said the first workshop of the series will be regarding “poetry”, adding that Arshad Mehmood Nashad would conduct this workshop as its instructor and a mentor to the participants.

The workshops are being conducted for the throngs of literature enthusiasts in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjacent areas, who have been asking the PAL to organise such an event for some time now.

He said that emerging writers from other cities were more than welcome to participate in the workshops but unfortunately the travelling and boarding expenses would have to be borne by themselves.

Dr Qasim Bughio further said that training workshops for drama and fiction were also in the works and they would hopefully be conducted in July as well.

The second workshop will be regarding “Fiction” and is likely to be held from July 18-20, in which Arshad Waheed, Dr. Najeeba Arif and Dr. Ravish Nadeem would provide the guidance to the young writers as their instructors and mentors. This workshop will focus on literary methods including novels, criticism, and short stories.

Moreover the third workshop is planned to be held July 25 to 27 and will focus on the genre of “drama.” The focus of the workshop will be on TV, stage plays, and even radio dramas. The mentor for this third workshop will be Ali Akbar Abbas. At the end of the workshops, the participants successfully completing will be awarded.

The young writers may get themselves registered via call, email or by directly visiting the office of the PLA.
