ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) staged a protest demonstration against the son-in-law of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and husband of Maryam Nawaz Capt (Retd) Safdar for using foul language, humiliating and insulting the ARY Senior Journalist Shahid Matela during his media briefing outside the Federal Judicial Academy.
Capt (Retd) Safdar, instead of answering a question of the senior journalist, leveled serious accusations against him during the direct telecast of his media briefing outside the Federal Judicial Academy.
The speakers, including PFUJ President Afzal Butt, RIUJ General Secretary Ali Raza Alvi and NPC President Shakeel Anjum strongly condemned this act of MNA Capt (Retd) Safdar and asked him to provide proofs against Shahid Matela in favour of his accusations.
Meanwhile, RIUJ has written a letter to Safdar on his insulting attitude against Shahid Matela.
In the letter that has been issued with the signatures of RIUJ General Secretary Ali Raza Alvi, he has been asked to provide proofs in favour of his accusations against the journalist. In the case of false and unfounded accusations, he must extend his apologies to Matela and the journalist community.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, and Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb.
