Pakistan on Thursday condemned the targeting of civilians in Azerbaijan by the Armenian forces in which among others a two-year-old girl has lost her life.
“We understand the sentiments of the Azerbaijan people in this situation since this happens on a daily basis with the Indian forces deliberately targeting civilians in Azad Jammu Kashmir across the Line of Control from Indian-held Kashmir, killing scores of innocent civilians, including children, and damaging civilian properties,” according to a statement issued here by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An Azeri woman and child were killed and another civilian wounded by Armenian forces near the boundary with the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday. Sporadic exchanges of fire in the fight for control over the region – inside Azerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians – have stoked fears of a wider conflict breaking out in the South Caucasus, which is crises-crossed by oil and gas pipelines.
