  • Rangers recover huge cache of arms from well in Karachi

KARACHI: Two crucial suspects in the Lyari gang war were taken into custody during an operation conducted late Wednesday night by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in the city’s troubled area.

Sources revealed that besides the arrested suspects, who are important elements in the prolonged Lyari gang war conflict, the primary goal of the raid was to round up the infamous leader Zahid Ladla and commander Tanvir. However, they were not caught.

Ladla is wanted by security officials in dozens of cases of murder, attempted murder, and extortion, the sources added.

Security officers detained three suspects during operations conducted in various areas of the metropolis.

According to details, during a raid carried out in the city’s Gulberg area, police took into custody two suspects and recovered weapons and a motorcycle from them.

Superintendent of Police (SP) said the arrestees – who have been identified as Shakeel and Salman – were wanted in numerous cases of street crime, the official added.

In addition, both suspects confessed to the street crimes they had committed earlier, the SP stated.

On the other hand, one suspect was detained during an operation conducted in Baldia’s Ittehad Town area, police said, adding that weapons and a motorcycle were recovered from the arrestee.

Meanwhile, Rangers personnel on Wednesday night recovered huge cache weapons hidden in a well in Nazimabad No-3 area of the metropolis.

According to Rangers’ sources, 7 Awon bombs, 3,026 bullets of SMG and 1,075 bullets of 222 rifle which were hidden at a depth of 70 feet in the well. Rangers also recovered 39 pamphlets, 31 banners and 13 bundles of water slips.

Rangers sources further said that the weapons belonged to MQM-London. It is pertinent to mention here that this was the second time that Rangers have recovered arms from a well. Rangers had recovered a huge quantity of arms from a well in the same area a few days ago.
