Women’s World Cup: Pakistan suffer fourth straight loss

LEICESTER: Pakistan suffered their fourth straight loss in the Women’s World Cup as they suffered a 159 run defeat at the hands of Australia in their last game of the tournament at Leicester on Wednesday.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in the match.

Australia scored 290/8 in their 50 overs with Ellyse Perry being the top scorer with 66 runs from 97 balls with the help of five boundaries while Alyssa Healy made 63 runs off 40 deliveries after hitting nine boundaries and a maximum.

Elyse Villani contributed 59 runs after hitting five fours and four sixes.

Sana Mir took three wickets and Sadia Yousuf grabbed two wickets. Asmavia Iqbal, Diana Baig and Marina Iqbal dismissed one Australian batswoman each.

Pakistan, chasing a target of 291 runs from 50 overs, were back in the pavilion after scoring just a low total of 131 runs in 50 overs. Only three batswomen managed to score in double figure.

Sana Mir was the top scorer for Pakistan as she made 45 runs from 85 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Iram Javed scored 21 runs from 37 balls after hitting four boundaries.

Kristen Beams and Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets each while Sarah Aley dismissed two Pakistani batswomen. Jess Jonassen also took a wicket as well.

Villani was named the Player of the match for contribution with the bat.

Pakistan lost their first match of the tournament to South Africa by three wickets and were beaten by England by 107 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

They were handed a 95 run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India.
