- Three adults, two children belong to Sindh’s Tharparkar area
The High Commission of Pakistan has reached out to the Indian authorities for the release of five Pakistani citizens after they were reportedly arrested by the police in Rajasthan, India’s largest state by area which shares a border with Punjab to the northwest and Sindh to the west.
The High Commission wrote a letter to India’s Ministry of External Affairs seeking consular access to the trapped family. Upon contact, a senior official at the high commission noted that the Indian ministry has yet to respond to its letter.
The official also expressed the hope that the family would be released and returned to Pakistan very soon. “We’re constantly trying but the Indian government has so far refused to cooperate,” the official said. According to the Indian High Commission, the stranded family consists of three adults and two children, all of whom belong to Tharparkar area of Sindh.
The members include 75-year-old Chando Bhel, his wife 70-year-old Dhai Bai Bhel, 60-year-old Khojo Bhel, 10-year-old Nuresh Bhel and 12-year-old Dharmi Bai. The family was arrested by the Indian police in Barmer area of Rajasthan where they visited their relatives on June 5.
