LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesman Fawad Chaudhry criticized Prime Minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz when she remarked that JIT had no case against the Sharif family. She said this after her appearance before the joint investigation team (JIT) on Wednesday (today).
While talking to the media, Chaudhry termed Maryam’s comments as “ridiculous”.
“The Sharif family is not used to giving answers. Maryam Nawaz is the front-woman in all this [Panama] saga,” he claimed, adding that the PM’s daughter’s lifestyle was “no less than that of Arab princesses”.
“If the prime minister’s assets grow multifold, then they have to be answerable. How did Maryam Nawaz become the owner of millions of rupees’ worth of jewellery?” he questioned.
Chaudhry further stated that the Maryam Nawaz had been summoned by the JIT since Hussain Nawaz had admitted having properties in Britain.
Earlier, while talking to the media, Maryam Nawaz said that no allegations of corruption proved against me.
She said the JIT had no answer of my questions. She said, “I posed a single query to JIT…what is allegation against us.” She added, The JIT had no answer to my question.
“Questions about the family’s businesses are being asked. If public money was involved, we are answerable, but that is not the case about private businesses,” she held.
In an apparent reference to PTI Chief Imran Khan, she said: “Why are those who have no businesses and no source of income not being questioned.”
“I am worried about the who is leveling false accusations,” she added.
This is the first JIT in the world formed without knowing what to charge the alleged suspects with, she said.
She said there is no evidence against Nawaz Sharif over misuse of public funds, adding that “not a penny has been misappropriated”.
“I was also involved in the Dawn Leaks. The reason is the same: to put a father under pressure after targeting his daughter. Everyone knows that in Islamic culture the daughter is the most dear to his father. They’ll discover the Nawaz Sharif’s daughter is his strength not weakness. I’m the daughter of someone who taught me to stand up for what’s right, and not bow down before injustice,” she added.
Maryam said they too could have used technicalities to hide in the corridors of power, diverted their vehicle to a hospital after ‘a back pain [excuse]’, become an absconder hiding in an official rest house in Nathiagali but they have accounted for three generations.
