Syed Muhammad Umar is a Quetta-based singer who started making music around two years ago.

Before starting his own gig around five years back, he was being mentored by Ustaad Abdul Rauf at Alhamra Arts Council. His love for music took him all around the country to properly learn the craft.

“It was a bit difficult to continue making music in Quetta, hence I decided to come to Lahore to learn the craft properly,” he said while talking to Pakistan Today.

He learned how to play the guitars under the supervision of Sajjad Tafu, and has also been taught by Ustaad G , Ustaad Habib ur Rehman Khan Sahab (NCA).

Recently Umar just came out with a tribute to Farida Khanum with an instrumental cover of her evergreen song, ‘Aaaj Jaanay ki zid na karo,’ and we think it’s a must-listen for all music lovers!

“Aaj Jannay ki zidd na karo comes from the love I have for Pakistani/Eastern music and especially Farida Jee, who was one of the finest gems in the Industry,” said Umar. “I really love playing the guitar and I thought that it’d be just the perfect way to pay her a tribute,” he added.

“Even though I play several instruments namely guitars, banjo, cajon drums, congo, darbula, ukulele, keyboard etc, my main love remains guitars,” he said. “We’ve just dabbled in covers thus far, but we’re currently working on a couple of originals as well, which we will release in a month or two,” he added.

We’re pretty sure that those will be awesome as well!

Please watch the cover here, and thank us later for discovering this gem for you!
