ECP to announce verdict of contempt of court case on July 10

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), has given PTI chief Imran Khan a week to submit his reply in the contempt of court case and will be announcing the verdict on July 10.

At the previous hearing held on June 19, the ECP had adjourned proceedings until today allowing Khan a ‘last chance’ to submit his reply in the case after the PTI counsel had informed that Khan is out of station.

The case was filed after the PTI alleged ECP of political bias in the case against the PTI’s ‘foreign funding’ initiated on the petition of disgruntled former party leader Akbar Babar.

During Tuesday’s (today) hearing, PTI counsel Shahid Gondal told the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan that Imran’s reply has been finalised but will be presented following due consultation with Babar Awan, a senior experienced lawyer who has recently joined the party.

“We do not need his [Imran] reply and will announce our verdict at the next hearing,” said the CEC and adjourned the hearing till July 10 after repeated requests for extension in time from Gondal.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Danial Aziz, while talking to the media after the hearing stated that institutions are not required exercise so much patience in such cases.
