LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) former President Asma Jahangir said had the government been the godfather then the Joint Investigation Team would not have been formed. She was alluding to references made by a Supreme Court judge in Panama case hearings.

She predicted if Nawaz Sharif is expelled then some other Prime Minister (PM) like Shaukat Aziz will come. She said this while talking to media men at the Lahore High Court Bar on Monday.

She underlined that criticising the JIT is not equivalent to criticising the Supreme Court.

Panama case has become more political than legal; the Sharifs will have to be proved culprits first of all in order to get punishment. She said a trial will take place after the JIT report, adding that no punishment can be awarded without trial.

Responding to a question she said there is no harm in sending the JIT to Qatar as there is such example in the past, in which an investigation team had gone abroad in the Memogate scandal.
