LAHORE: In dozens of districts across Lahore, defective and substandard transformers of LESCO cause stress to citizens. Transformers get damaged by little rain. And despite there being 600 transformer trollies worth Rs 50 crore at the disposal of LESCO, citizens are at the behest of LESCO staff, who, after a fault in a transformer, await kickbacks before installing a transformer trolley.
In about 150 different parts of the city, workers of LESCO use transformer trolleys instead of finding long-term solutions. These trollies have been installed in of roads and streets in ways that block the way for people on foot and cars as well, according to LESCO sources.
In Gulshan Ravi, Ferozwala, Ravi Road, Data Darbar and Badami Bagh, most transformers are old and substandard which get faulty with the slightest increase in load. In LESCO’s central circle division which includes the areas of Township, Raiwand, Samnabad and Civil Lines, complaints about faulty transformers are a norm. In the eastern division of LESCO – Shalimar, Mcleod Road, Mughal Pura, and Baghbanpur, dozens of substandard transformers have been installed. Even in the southeastern division, Kot Lakhpat and Saddar, because of substandard and poor transformers getting faulty, transformers have been placed as temporary arrangements.
To provide continuous electricity during the changing of faulty transformers, LESCO has provided 600 new transformer trolleys.
LESCO spokesperson Imran has said that LESCO, for the facilitation of the people has provided 6 to 7 transformer trolleys in every subdivision. If a complaint is received pertaining to any member of LESCO staff, strict action is taken immediately.
