Karachi Central Jail assistant superintendent arrested over terrorism charges

KARACHI: Karachi Central Jail Assistant Superintendent Ayaz Salik is reported to have been arrested on Sunday (today)  over charges of terrorism.

According to the Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, until now 15 central jail officials have been arrested in connection with the escape of two under trial prisoners.

On June 15, two under-trial prisoners, Sheikh Muhammad alias Firon and Ahmed Khan alias Manako were able to flee from the jail’s judicial complex, where they were brought for a hearing.

The two accused belonged to the banned outfit  Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. 12 police personnel, including the jail superintendent, were arrested on orders of the Sindh law and prisons minister.

A case was also lodged against them in the New Town Police Station.

 Investigations into the incident, later revealed that the two prisoners were also helped by other inmates as well.

The two had been were arrested in 2013 over alleged involvement  in multiple cases of targeted killings.
