Death toll from Ahmedpur East oil inferno mounts to 199

BAHAWALPUR/LAHORE: Three more victims of Ahmedpur East oil tanker fire passed away on Sunday (today), raising the death toll to 197.

According to Dr Amir Mahmood, so far eight people under treatment at Jinnah Hospital Lahore have succumbed to their wounds.

23 injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital Lahore on June 27. Five of the 27 patients passed away the following day.

14 people are currently under treatment at the hospital of which six are said to be critical.

Another 2 critically injured victims under treatment in burn unit at Nishtar Hospital, Multan have also succumbed to their wounds.

A large number of people were charred to death on the spot when an overturned oil tanker exploded into an inferno on the National Highway on June 25. The people which included passers-bys and residents of a nearby area, had gathered to collect oil that was leaking from the tanker.
