ISLAMABAD: Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Chairperson Zafar Hijazi appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to submit its reports on Chaudhry Sugar Mills owned by the Sharif family on Friday (today).
As per sources, five officers of the SECP presented the report against the sugar mills records before JIT. Officials of the SECP had been summoned by the Supreme Court.
Besides issuing the summons, the Supreme Court also sent a notice, following which the Federal Investigation Agency constituted an enquiry and fact-finding committee.
The records against Chaudhry Sugar Mills remained a disputed matter as the JIT had accused the SECP of record tampering stating that the commission actually dropped the probe in 2013, but signatures showed it was closed in 2016.
The probe against Chaudhry Sugar Mills initiated in 2011, following pressure from the then ruling Pakistan Peoples Party.
