KARACHI: The metropolis could not be supplied 150 million gallons of water as the 72-inch pipeline of Dhabeji Pumping Station was yet again ruptured due to three power breakdowns in 16 hours.

As per the water board spokesperson, the power breakdown due to heavy downpour suspended electric supply to the pumping station, causing a back pressure to build up in the pipeline leading it to burst at two different places. Subsequently, he added, the nearby area was inundated.

The staff and necessary machinery to fix the pipe have been dispatched to the pumping station as per the directions from the water board managing director, informed the spokesperson, adding that repair work will commence soon.

Recently, the water supply was affected on June 20, when the  72-inch pipeline was ruptured at the same pumping station, which is the main water supply source for Karachi.
