ISLAMABAD: Former chairperson of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lieutenant General (retd) Syed Amjad Hussain appeared before the Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and recorded his statement regarding the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case.

He also reportedly told the JIT why the case has been at a standstill since a long time.
Lt Gen (retd) Amjad spent around an hour with the high-profile probe team and left without talking to the media.
The Hudaibiya Paper Mills money-laundering reference against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif was initiated in 2000 in the then chief executive General Pervez Musharraf’s government.
The reference was based on the April 25, 2000 confession of finance minister Ishaq Dar, where he admitted to his role in alleged money laundering on behalf of the Sharif family through fictitious accounts.
However, Dar later retracted the statement saying it was given under duress.
The JIT is working out of the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad. It has till July 10 to submit its report into the financial assets of the Sharif family to the Supreme Court.
The high-profile probe team has also summoned the prime minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on July 5, and her brothers Hussain and Hasan on July 4 and 3, respectively.
