Journalist attacked in Badin by alleged drug peddlers

BADIN: A journalist from Badin was assaulted by two alleged drug peddlers for publishing news about their illegal activities.

According to reports, on the second day of the Eidul Fitr, notorious drugs peddler, Achar Mallah along with his acquaintance attacked the senior journalist, Raja Shakeel Ahmed Ghanchi, at his house in Badin.

The accused, reportedly, knocked at the house-door of the journalist and began beating him after he came outside and threatened him of the harsh consequences if he published news against them again.

The mob of the local residents gathered there after their blaring, the drugs peddlers managed to escape from the spot after threatening the local journalists of the hard consequences.

Badin police have lodged an FIR against the drugs peddlers on the complaint of the journalists and have started to conduct raids led by Badin Station House Officer (SHO) Ibrahim Jatoi. The criminals would be sent behind the bars as soon as possible, the SHO assured.

Meanwhile, the local journalists have called an urgent meeting at the Badin Press Club, presided over by Badin Press Club President Tanveer Ahmed Arain, to discuss the security of journalists.

The meeting was attended by many senior journalists, including Shoukat Memon, Allah Rakhyo Naeem Mallah, Anees Memon, Abdul Shakoor Memon, Murtaza Memon, Abdul Majeed Mallah, Abdul Latif Zargar, Sawan Khaskheli, Altaf Shad Memon, Ashfaq Ahmed Memon and others.

They condemned the attack and appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan, Sindh IGP and others for taking an immediate notice of the matter and provide protection to the journalist and arrest the drugs peddlers as soon as possible.
