RAWALPINDI: 51 people who were critically burnt in the oil tanker fire on Sunday were shifted in Army Aviation helicopters to Multan for medical treatment.
Emergency has been imposed at Nishtar Hospital; Doctors have been called and their leaves cancelled as well.
The injured were shifted to the hospital by Pak Army and Rescue ambulances which were already present at Multan International Airport.
Commissioner Multan Bilal Butt, Deputy Commissioner Nadir Chatha, Nishtar Hospital MS Dr. Abdul Rehman Qureshi and others officials reached the burn unit, inspected the arrangements for the treatment of victims and issued directions to doctors and paramedical staff.
Associate Professor Dr. Bilal told APP that 51 injured in the incident were being shifted from Bahawalpur which did not have a burn unit facility.
He said that all possible medical treatment facilities were being extended to the injured on the direction of Punjab Chief Minister.
The Commissioner Multan along with RPO Sultan Azam Taimoori reached Multan airport and reviewed the activities of shifting the injured.
He said that extra beds and doctors had been deputed at Nishtar burn unit.
“51 seriously burnt critical victims have been shifted from Bahawalpur to Multan through Army helicopters,” Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Asif Ghafoor tweeted.
Army troops are busy in relief and rescue efforts at Ahmad Pur Sharqia, Bahawalpur, and Multan, while the incident site has been cleared and traffic on the highway has been restored.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed grief on lives lost in the oil tanker incident that took place on the main highway near the town of Ahmed Pur Sharqia.
The COAS directed to provide full assistance to civil administration in rescue and relief activities.
Following the directions, Pakistan Army troops reached the incident site and cordoned the area to augment rescue and relief activities. Army aviation helicopters were immediately engaged to evacuate the casualties to CMH Multan and Bahawalpur.
