The police discovered early Saturday morning the flour mill that terrorists were using to make bombs and suicide jackets during an operation in Chamkani area, informed Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Tahir Khan.
Khan, while speaking to media, also said that two terrorists were killed and five security officers were injured in an exchange of fire in Peshawar, in an intelligence-based operation that began in wee hours on Saturday.
The police also seized a huge cache of arms from the factory including six hand grenades, four pistols, four Kalashnikovs, explosives’ material, 600 detonators, prima cord, integrated circuits, time-device and several mobile phones, maps and pictures of different sensitive locations.
Khan said that the factory was multi-storey and there might be more explosive-making material which could be hidden elsewhere within the vicinity. However, one terrorist also managed to escape, Khan said, adding search operations with the help of sniffer dogs were being conducted to find the suspect.
The operation started when terrorists opened fire on the policemen during a raid near grid station of Chamkani area. After this, the terrorists hid into a flour mill. Police gathered a heavy contingent to deal with the remaining terrorists in an operation that lasted all night.
As a result of the operation, three police officials, including an SHO, were also wounded in exchange of fire with terrorists. The police officers have sustained minor injuries, said Khan. Inspector General Police (IGP) Salahuddin Masood commended the police for their dedication.
The security forces declared the compound clear after a search operation and hoisted Pakistan flag on the building. According to KP IG, the dead terrorists belonged to a banned organization and were involved in several cases of bomb attacks. Police said the owner of the flour mill will also be investigated.
