MULTAN: The first ever Paediatric Dialysis Unit in Punjab was opened at ward no 19 of Nishtar Hospital on Saturday.
Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University (NMU), Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha and a girl named Minhaj Maula jointly opened a six bedded unit.
Initially, two dialysis machines and a Reverse Osmosis Plant have been donated to the unit by an NGO called Taarey Zameen Par which is going to fund another two machines in two months.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at the conference hall of Ward 19, Dr Mustafa Pasha said that the Paediatric Dialysis Unit was another feather in the cap of Nishtar.
He said that a sub-branch of blood collection centre has been launched at the Labour Room which would be sent to the Nishtar Laboratory through the hospital’s carriers.
He informed that these tests would be conducted on a priority basis and the results would be available online in the ward after 40 minutes.
The VC said that 150 patients were being operated upon through 4 operation theatres at Accident & Emergency Ward daily.
A number of steps have been taken by Dr Mustafa Kamal after taking over as VC. He said that the administration has launched a Clean Nishtar Campaign under which 1000 saplings would be planted at the facility.
