LAHORE: The Lahore Police has decided to depute as many as 15,000 police officials on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr for the security of the Metropolitan by keeping in view the recent wave of terrorism in the country that has claimed 55 lives while injuring over 100 people in bomb blasts in Parachinar and Quetta the other day.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Captain (Retd) Amin Wains and attended by other high officials of Lahore Police including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG Investigation Chaudhry Sultan, DIG Security Dr Moeen, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ijaz Ahmed, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Admin Ayaz Salim and all divisional SPs, DSPs and SHOs.

“As many as 15,000 police officials will be deputed under the supervision of 20 SPs, 50 DSPs and 84 SHOs. The squads of Dolphin Force will also be deputed in the city while officials of CIA police will perform their duties as well to provide the foolproof security to more than 2700 mosques and 200 open Eid congregations in the city,” the CCPO said. People will be allowed to enter the Eid congregation only after passing through a rigorous three-tier security layer while additional police force will also be deputed in the parks and graveyards, he added.

According to DIG Operation Dr Haider Ashraf, special monitoring teams of police have been formed and strict action will be taken against those involved in one-wheeling, aerial firing and kite-flying on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. “The parking of vehicles will be made at a distance of 200 meters from the place of Eid congregations in order to ensure the foolproof security,” DIG Operations said. Moreover, an additional police force will be deputed at the entry and exit points of the city with special combing operations carried out in the Afghan localities of the city.

The city traffic police have also issued the traffic plan for Eid-ul-Fitr and 3,000 traffic wardens will perform their duties under the supervision of 2 SPs, 12 DSPs and 116 inspectors while 121 lady traffic wardens will also be deputed on the roads. The traffic police will also take action against wrong parking, encroachments, one-wheeling and beggars in the city. For the very first time, lady traffic wardens will be deputed at Mall Road and special camps of traffic police will be established at main arteries of the city to provide traffic awareness to the commuters. “Seven traffic response units have been formed that would remain alerted and quickly respond in case of a traffic jam to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on Eid-ul-Fitr,” CTO Rai Ijaz Ahmed said.
