Four sewerage plants to be built to protect Rawal Lake from pollution

ISLAMABAD: In order to protect Rawal Lake from pollution, the district government has decided to install four separate Sewerage Treatment Plants in the areas adjacent to the lake.

The sewerage treatment plants will cost Rs 2.4 billion. The four stakeholders the Capital Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA), Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad and the Islamabad administration will bear the cost of construction.

Links and sewerage treatment plants will be installed and constructed on the seasonal nullahs of Bhara Kahu and one seasonal nullah of Bari Imam so that the polluted water coming from these areas through nullah could be treated.

The PC-1 of the said project has been approved by the IDWP. A high significance meeting of the Islamabad Administration was held at the Chief Commissioner Office under the Finance Director Chaudhry Muhammad Ali that was attended by the representatives of the Islamabad Administration, CDA, WASA and MCI.

According to senior officials at the administration, a total cast of the project will be distributed among the four stakeholders on the basis of cost sharing formula.

The project will protect the Rawal Lake from direct pollution.
