Panama Case: Rehman Malik due to appear before JIT today

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Senator Rehman Malik is due to appear before the joint investigation team (JIT) on Friday (today). The JIT appointed on the directives of the Supreme Court is probing the Sharif family’s assets.

Malik is expected to arrive at the Federal Judicial Academy at around 2:30pm.

The PPP senator will be providing information to the JIT about the Sharif’s family involvement in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case, according to sources.

Malik has also served in the Federal Investigation Agency at various posts, and later became the agency’s director-general. He was also assigned the task to probe into corruption charges against Nawaz Sharif during the second government of Benazir Bhutto in the mid-1990s while serving in the FIA.

Malik was asked to appear before the JIT on June 17 but he requested a rescheduling of the date as he was out of the country then.

Moreover, sources are reported to have informed that the JIT has also summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar on June 24.
