DERA GHAZI KHAN: Member of the National Assembly and Pakistan Awami Raj Party chairman Jamshed Dasti has acquired bail and is expected to be released from Dera Ghazi Khan central jail today, according to media reports.

According to a correspondent, the anti-terrorism court granted bail to the parliamentarian on furnishing surety bonds of Rs 1 lac.

MNA Jamshed Dasti was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Dasti, a lawmaker from Punjab’s Muzaffargarh area, was arrested yesterday over his alleged role in instigating people to open the sluice gate at Kalu headworks channel.

Officials said Dasti was produced before a magistrate in a local court where the judge handed him over to police on 14-day judicial remand.

Police said Dasti, along with a number of people, had opened the sluice gate at Kalu headworks channel to release water in Dinga minor (Muzaffargarh Canal).

The irrigation officials had warned him against opening the gate that had been closed for many months due to litigation, police said.

On the other hand, Dasti is of the view that he had released water to facilitate farmers who had been complaining about water shortage.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had taken notice of the incident and instructed authorities to take stern action against Dasti.
