Parliamentarians irate over Bait-ul-Mal poor performance

–Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat directs CDA to ensure maintenance of govt accommodation

In a meeting of the Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, the parliamentarians expressed their displeasure on the state of affairs at Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) here on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the Committee as a whole expressed strong dissatisfaction over the poor performance of PBM, especially non-distribution of food items as Ramzan package to needy people and distributions of funds to the selected districts. The Committee, therefore, directed that Cabinet Division Secretary may probe into the matter, as to why PBM was unable to distribute the foot items to the deserving people during this Ramzan, and report to the Committee before July 15, 2017 positively.

Members of the committee also expressed their concern over the shortage of water in Islamabad, directing that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) must take stringent measures to meet the water requirements for Islamabad and come up with the proposals for enhancement of budget if required, so that Committee could take them at appropriate forum for an amicable solution.

It is pertinent to mention here that Islamabad is currently in a grip of acute water shortage, with many residents left at the mercy of tanker mafia, costing them thousand of rupees per filling. The worst hit sectors of capital are G-9, G-8, G-11, G-13, E-11, I-10, and others.

Also, the committee further directed that CDA may ensure the maintenance work of government accommodations of employees, as most of them are in a dilapidated condition and need maintenance on an urgent basis.

The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2013—moved by MNA Naeema Kishwar Khan—has been recommended to National Assembly, as the Senate has already passed the said Bill, whereas the Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2016—moved by MNA Dr Fauzia Hameed—will be passed with slight amendments made by the Committee.

MNAs Sardar Muhammad Irfan Dogar, Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Asad Umar, Rasheed Ahmed Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Maulvi Agha Muhammad, Syed Ali Raza Abidi, Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Shehnaz Saleem, Nighat Parveen Mir; movers of the Bills Naeema Kishwar Khan and Dr Fauzia Hameed; Asiya Naz Tanoli and senior officers of the concerned ministries/departments attended the meeting, which was held in Parliament House, Islamabad with MNA Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan in the chair.
